WE CHANGE THE WOLRD FROM WHERE WE ARE
In tribute to Amendoim, Alfredinho of Bip Bip and Sergio Bonato from PUC-Rio(Blog last updated in October, 2024)
Viramundo is passionately committed to promoting physical and mental health and environmental sanitation, with a focus on highly participatory health and environmental literacy.
We encourage people to adopt, improve, or change their health habits, recognize and mobilize for their rights and responsibilities, and combat misinformation in the domain of health.
Additionally, we advocate for other rights, such as education, culture, housing, peace, gender equality, and social justice, with actions taken both locally and globally.
Viramundo belongs to the National Network to Combat Disinformation (check it out by clicking the image below)
we are what we do
Viramundo was founded on the belief that public health and environmental sanitation are fundamental human rights
We aim to build solidarity between the Rocinha community and other marginalized neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro, while establishing relationships with affluent areas such as São Conrado and Gavea
We also make connections at the global scale since many cities around the world share similar conditions, especially in terms of social inequalities
how can PEOPLE live in that way?
People who live in socially excluded communities face a reality of open sewer system
Viramundo
In 2006, Viramundo was established as a nonprofit NGO within the massive slum of Rocinha in Rio de Janeiro. We run educommunicative projects at this location and others to promote health and ecological sanitation (ecosan) literacy in partnership with community members
