Viramundo is working on a project with researchers from the Universities of Alberta, Athabasca, and Ottawa: “Community-Based Monitoring of Canadian Mines in Brazil, Philippines, and Kyrgyzstan”.
IIn August 2023, we were in Paracatu, Minas Gerais. A Canadian company is mining gold there, with apparent health, environmental and social externalities.
Viramundo is dedicated to health and environmental literacy, making them a valuable partner for this project.
The NGO shares the residents’ fears about the future. They worry about what will happen when companies shut down, leaving behind social, environmental, and health problems.
